Annabelle Fowkles Serrano… married to my Bro… 60 yrs 7 mo… and counting… ‘Mi Cuñada’.

Throughout many years  Da Emma and I (sometimes with Olguita and Glorimar) visited with them and always enjoyed the stay.  Da Emma and Anna got a-l-o n-g beautifully… even with the language limitation.  And did I tell you that we spent four months with them (María exiles)… la Nena and I in their master bedroom?

A year later… the joint CRUISE… 80 days around  South America… Antartica (34  ports  of call)… unbelievable… the greatest.  We celebrated the birthdate of the 4 of us (5,  9, 22 Feb… and April 9)  Two couples… just having fun.

And on 5 Jan 2020 Jose had a stroke… left side unresponsive… very  little  movement overall.  Janilka and I flew to  Lake Charles  to spend some time with them. At a given time in the Hospital, Anna says:  «We will get through this, one day at  a time.«

In the following days there was some progress:  eyes opened at times and limited head movement; right foot toes… trying to communicate?  Start of the recovery process… one day at a time.  And She was there.

A transfer to a Specialized Unit in  Houston was recommended… and  there  they went… both in the ambulance.  Things did not go as expected… so after a week or so… back to Lake Charles to a Therapy Nursing Home close to their house. There he spent the next few months… improving.  Did I tell you he was speaking again… slowly?

Due to the pandemic, visits were not permitted   but  t h e r e she was… outside the glass door... him, inside… in the wheel chair… that he could manage by this time…Love is in the air…     their’s and God’s…

Sometime later, they got the ‘bilingual’ phone units where both ‘speakers’see each other, so… stay home visits… one day at a time.  And soon he went  back  home… continued therapy… improving…  He could, and would do some exercise by  himself on the terrace… Anna, close by… ‘just checking‘... one day at a time.

It’s been a year now… and I still remember her words at the ICU: «We’ll get through this… one day at a time.»

Jose is still improving… doing it… one day at a time.

……….. And this Monday… Feb 22
